Today’s Perspective on Mental Health in New Jersey

December 4, 2014 by Paul Spergel

Young man in poseSociety has been evolving, become more hectic and more demanding.

With these changes our ability to adapt and cope has become increasingly more difficult. I have noticed that there has been a significant increase in symptoms of acute depression and generalized anxiety. The fear of losing one’s job and the possibility of losing one’s home, savings, and security has become more prevalent, as well as the fear that they may become homeless due to the significant financial impact.

Professional health care providers are seeing a significant increase in the number of people struggling with depression, anxiety, family dynamic issues, alcoholism, stress-related health issues (such as high blood pressure, weight loss/gain). The psychological impact has been severe. These same health care providers have reported an escalation in the use of prescribed psychotropic medications and the need for mental health services has become greater now more then ever.

The result of this increased demand for mental health services has strained the community and hospital health care centers to capacity with increased wait times to see a therapist or a psychiatrist. A majority of our clients have reported that it can take up to 3 months to obtain an initial appointment with a psychiatrist. In addition, clients are struggling to find mental health providers that accept insurance and/or who are taking new clients.

So the question remains: What do people do to find a quality mental health provider and get an appointment when they need one?

We at the Chester Psychotherapy Group, LLC, understand those needs. Our philosophy is to work with the client to form a treatment plan that is individualized for that client. We recognize that when a client reaches out for help they need to be seen as soon as possible, dependent on their situation. We try to get all new clients in to see a therapist within 24 hours. Please give our office and call and we will do our best to work with you and your insurance company. We can be reached at 973-527-7072. Our hours of operation are Monday – Thursday from 10am to 7pm, and Friday from 10am to 6pm. We look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for choosing the Chester Psychotherapy Group LLC.
